Workshop Details:

En plein air is the act of painting outdoors. This 5 hour workshop is designed to be an introduction to plein air painting in the mountains as well as a glimpse into how art offers us a deeper connection to nature. Our focus for the day will be seeking out the majestic nature of golden aspen leaves!

Participants who sign up for this workshop should feel up walking around 8 miles total with up to 1500 feet elevation gain. We will travel at a leisurely pace, stopping often to paint but this is a full day outdoors with the potential for encounters with mountain weather. Please be prepared!

Exact location will be announced closer to the date. The workshop will begin in downtown Marble, Colorado. After an introduction, we will carpool to our destination.  Participants will be given all the art supplies you need but you will be responsible for carrying your own personal items, water and food for the day.

With extensive experience plein air painting and work as a creative professional, I hope to share some useful tips and heart felt reflections from my journey blending art and my love of wild places. Take a peak here for extra inspiration from my plein air painting adventures.

Topics we will cover in the workshop:

  • ideal supplies to pack for plein air painting

  • painting on paper vs. in a travel journal

  • considerations for plein air painting (wind, air temp, rain, etc)

  • ideal time of day to paint

  • choosing your location

  • connecting with nature and translating that to your artwork

  • painting what you feel + see

  • sketching

  • Leave No Trace ethics in the outdoors

If we have to cancel both Saturday and Sunday due to rain, a refund or a credit for future workshops will be offered. If you are unable to attend the rain date, I can not guarantee a refund.
