Wise Woman Sunday :: April 13th, 2025
Join us for a single day version of the Mother Tree Retreat on the final day. Get all the details here:
The retreat will be jointly-led by Kerrie Martin, a yoga teacher, holistic health coach and ayurvedic perinatal consultant, and Sarah Uhl, an artist and creativity coach. We are both Mothers to lively young children and we are in active exploration and practice of how to balance the demands of mothering alongside our desire to cultivate our livelihoods, relationships, community, creativity and sense of adventure. Our respective Motherhood journeys have inspired each of us to deepen our personal growth and to clarify and cultivate what we most value. The origin of this retreat was born out of our shared vision that Mothers need pockets of time to step away from the daily demands of mothering in order to reflect, reorient and replenish. We hold a shared vision for the nourishment and empowerment of Mothers and believe in the power of community and creativity to birth a new paradigm for mothering that prioritizes our connection to ourselves as women alongside our role as Mothers. With this retreat, our hope is to provide a sacred container for connection with ourselves and each other alongside the felt sense of being witnessed and acknowledged for our multitudes and the gifts we each bring to the world. We both know that women are meant to be in connection and collaboration and that we need strong bonds with each other that help us navigate the arch of mothering within our life journeys.
come sit under the mother tree with us
Mother Trees are like the Matriarchs of the forest. They are the wise ones, the guardians, and the protectors - capable of holding our hearts, our tears, and our dreams for how to revision our lives as we evolve and grow.
Mother Trees play a critical role in the health and communication of the greater ecosystem, using an underground network of mycorrhizal fungi to share nutrients, water, and information with surrounding trees, particularly younger seedlings. Through this network, they support the growth of saplings, even those of other species, by transferring essential nutrients like nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus. In times of environmental stress (e.g., drought, pests), mother trees send chemical signals through the fungal network to warn other trees, allowing them to prepare, and adapt as resilient being. Mother trees are way-showers, modeling strength and sturdiness over the course of time as well as the interconnectedness of all life.
We can look to the Mother Tree for guidance and support in our mothering journey. We can reach out through our “underground networks” and connect with the wisdom o the Earth and each other to help us expand our sense of kin and support our capacity to hold so much. . . We are not meant to do this on our own.
the ultimate mothers circle
When women circle together in connection, collaboration and community. . . magic abounds! Here’s the deep scoop on what we’ll be up to together.
This retreat is designed for mother’s with children at home who want to deepen their personal well-being amidst the demands of daily life. . . (we welcome mama’s with young children, tweens or teenagers.) We have curated this retreat to give you both time in community to connect with other mothers, time for solo/quiet time and also space for yoga, meditation, art, journaling, sipping tea and being in nature/exploring the land. We will also be nourishing you with lovingly crafted meals and snacks.
The location: Our retreat location at Beyul is a pristine natural sanctuary and the layers of healing available from the land and landscape itself is potent. The cozy accommodations offer a respite from the hustle of daily life and invite you into a rhythm more aligned with the natural world. There will be time for snowshoe adventures, x country skiing (bring your skis!) or meandering walks around the property as well as time spent in Beyul’s legendary cedar sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub.
The intention: To be in community, connection and sisterhood with other mamas on the path and to witness each other in our respective journeys raising children alongside our larger context as women in the world where we want to be of contribution and share our gifts alongside feeding our whole selves - creatively, relationally, emotionally, playfully, spiritually etc.
The content: The retreat will be a mix of group and solo time with opportunities to be in inquiry, to explore creativity, to re-inhabit the body through yoga and movement, to deeply relax with eye rest/yoga nidra practice, to invoke the art of slow on the go and other wellness practices (like breathwork and meditation) that center your well-being within your day to day life as a mother and a woman.
The freedom: This retreat is about freeing yourself from the demands of everyday life and taking an intentional pause. These precious, sacred days together in mama-sisterhood will support you in cultivating a deep connection to your heart, soul and inner knowing alongside a community of other mothers. Our intention is to nourish you deeply through nutrient dense food, movement, rest, circle time, connection, inquiry, play and nature. We envision you leaving the retreat feeling replenished and inspired with a deep sense of your values and the tools to integrate yourself wholeheartedly back into your day-to-day life feeling empowered and resourced.

testimonials for Sarah and Kerrie
“I signed up for Sarah’s retreat because I have admired her painting style for years and I wanted to meet her and learn from her. It turns out, the retreat was so much more than learning a new painting style. It was a balm for my soul and a safe space to manifest my dream of becoming a mother, as well as a more confident artist and connected human being. As I write this testimonial, I am watching it snow out the window with my 2 month old son sleeping on my chest. It was an incredible few days at avalanche ranch and I am looking forward to the next retreat.”
-Sarah Carpenter from Idaho“Sarah is an amazing artist, teacher, and human. She creates a space that allows for both connection and reflection. She weaves her web of nurturing at multiple levels, offering us the opportunity to access beauty in the physical forms of nourishment as well as tending to our inner landscapes. I had high expectations, and quite honestly, they were exceeded. It was all of my favorite things in a multi-day feast for the senses and heart.”-Alyssa from Wisconsin
“Thank you for all the preparation, planning, and forethought. Thank you for your calm and centered energy. Thank you for the details you attended to throughout the entire experience. Thank you for being open and vulnerable yourself, making it easy for others to do the same. Thank you for sharing your time, your family and yourself. The overall feeling each day was one of being nourished, being held, being taken care of. This was exactly what I needed.”
-Karalea from California
Kerrie- thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge. You made me feel so validated and empowered to take steps toward healing. I'm realizing that the restrictions I put on myself were a form of self-loathing which doesn't allow space for radical self care or improved health. You've been such a catalyst to get me on this journey, I really can't thank you enough! --- Sarah, Photographer, Aspen, CO
My experience working with Kerrie has been such a unique experience. Kerrie filled my life with a safe space to express myself without judgement. She demonstrates so eloquently with her words and listening ear how through the power of allowing that even I could radically shift my life in many more ways than just my health. But a fundamental shift in how I connect to my heart and live from that place. I learned that less is more, not just in nature but in my entire life. Today I now choose to live by that mantra. Less is more. I wish for anyone who is seeking a gentle yet profound experience to work with Kerrie on steping into the possibility of healing! --- J. Krafft, Licensed Massage Therapist, Austin, TX
Kerrie - first, I know I say it often, but I really do feel truly blessed to have a teacher like you in my life. Working with you has been so incredibly healing and empowering, I would not quite know where to even begin. You have helped me to start to see, and love, myself for who I really am. You have helped me learn how to listen to what is in my heart, and ask what it is I am really craving from my life. Through all of this a new kindness has entered my life. A kindness towards myself and my journey. A self love has emerged, one that I had never really known how to show or how to feel for that matter. You have helped me learn to trust who I am and the path that I am following, and that the answers I am looking for are always right below the surface, within me, waiting for me to listen. So thank you for that. Thank you for your kindness, wisdom and compassion, for being a part of my life and my healing journey.
